BLACK PANTHER

So at first glance
Black Panther , film released February 14 in the UK , it may seem like yet another cartoon strip Marvel, all action and suits (but anyway tutine of a certain level, see below under the heading costumes). Instead, the film that grinds the record and positive criticism (on the site Rotten Tomatoes has a score of 98 percent) was even defined a turning point in the film representation of African Americans: for the first time a $ 130 million blockbuster has an almost all-African cast and a color director (Ryan Coogler of Creed) and, for the first time ever, a fiercely afro-centric view of the story that touches themes is adopted also of current events, from the African diaspora to the battle for civil rights. Based on the comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966,who wanted to create a pop character in which black readers could identify themselves, Black Panther is the first true black superhero. In the strips it was taken over and abandoned over the years by several different authors, up to the last series, the one released in 2016 and signed by Ta-Nehisi Coates, one of the most important contemporary African-American intellectuals. "It's the first time in a film that there are black people who are kings, scientists, inventors. It is not the usual film about blacks, where we always talk about poverty, suffering, marginalization ", explains Jamie Broadnax, founder of the Black Girl Nerds website. Plot: the imaginary African state of Wakanda that thanks to alien technologies is the most advanced in the world must fight to keep its secret protected by the king T'Challa, alter ego of the super hero Black Panther.

Crazy special effects like every self-respecting Marvel production and soundtrack signed by rapper Kendrick Lamar . An Oscar winner in the cast, Lupita Nyong, plus Chadwick Boseman, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wrigh, Michael B. Jordan (keep an eye on it), Danai Gurira (for fans of The Walking Dead ). A manifesto not only for how it is represented for the first time a minority in the cinema, but also a beautiful example of girl power thanks to a gallery of super-tough female characters, whether they are lethal warriors or brilliant scientists.

Here are five things you may not know about this already record-breaking film.

Before even going out in theaters, it was the film that has been tweeted the most in the world this year, in second place is Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Twitter has also created an emoji for #BlackPanther.

It could be the first film from a Marvel comic to be nominated for an important Oscar award (we're talking about 2019 of course), that is, in main categories, not the usual special effects.

The director of photography by Black Panther is Rachel Morrison: first woman in history vying for the Oscar for photography. She is a candidate for Mudbound , a drama directed by Dee Rees and starring Carey Mulligan and Mary J. Blige.

Another record-breaking woman is the costume designer Ruth E. Carter(already nominated for the Oscars for Amistad and Malcolm X), historical collaborator of Spike Lee, who has sought inspiration in every corner of Africa, studying the colors, clothes and traditional ornaments to realize the customs of the kingdom of Wakanda.

From Black Panther it is also founded a clothing line : the Chromat brands, Cushnie et Ochs, Fear of God, Ikire Jones, Laquan Smith, Sophie Theallet Tome and collaborated with Marvel Studios to manufacture high fashion, inspired by characters and to the themes of the film. These dresses will be auctioned on CharityBuzz.com in support of Save the Children. While the capsule collections inspired by Black Panther made by Brother Vellies, Douriean Fletcher and Josh Bennett can be purchased on the websites of the respective brands.
